N umber 6 Gimble ring transom Assembly
 

Where the pins go through the gimble ring some corrossion is present. This seems to be the spot where the ring breaks. Replace this ring? or any info on this topic would be useful.

If its not cracked now and you are just worried about it take it apart, clean everything, grease all the pins back up and put it back together. I had to replace a few for customers that didnt get caught in time and cracked.

Anyone know how these friggin pins come out or are they just frozen in?

Anyone know how to put these Dry sump number six drives back together? We took em apart and have a bucket of extra parts. But seriously these these pins with the 4 bolts in, u remove the bolts and can not get the pin out.

I had to replace a few for customers that didnt get caught in time and cracked.

Number six drives never break. yeah hello!

When adjusting the fuel pressure be sure not to crimp the return line instead of just fixing the regulator...:cool-smiley-027:

The pins....get yourself a slide hammer.. Take out the 4 bolts and install the slide hammer in the tapped hole in the center of the pin and hammer it out. If it's stuck heat up the pin, spray it with PB Blast and let it sit until the SS shrinks back down, then use the slide hammer again... Go slow with the bolts that hold the pin in so you don't sheer them off inside the aluminum...

Exactly what he said. The pins are a pain getting out.

The gimbals mainly go bad because of salt build up and corrosion inside the pin housings. It would take mercury a few seconds to place some anti sieze or marine grease inside the housings. It may not stop it from happening over time but it may slow the process a bit.

Even if there is a slight crack in the housing they have to be replaced.

Make sure that in the future you wash it thoroughly with Salt Away and then spray the crap out of it with WD 40 or CRC.

We noticed a very small hairline crack between the retainer bolt hole and the inside of the pin bore. There is approx. 3/16" of material there -- almost looks as though it cracked during the tapping of the retainer bolt hole or maybe from corrosion.... I take it this should be replaced or can they be welded and machined? There rest of the gimbal ring is perfect....

any advice?

Biggest pain in the azz job I ever did..........seriously! I did mine last season. The heat and slide hammer will work, but not easily. Make sure you have extra threaded pins or whatever they are called for the slide hammer. You WILL break them. The top pin I never could get out without cutting. However, with a good blade in your trusty sawzall it was actually fairly easy. That new pin is expensive though.
