T/A removal

Have my drives off and engines out to remove transom assy for gimball/steering issues, anything special to pay attention to when removing inner-outer TA Bravo 1. its a 1991 311, was going to do the in place JR thing but have small leak etc so decided to go all the way. thanks guys Randy

I don't have any tips for you, but instead would like to ask for pictures/writeup for when I have to do the same thing.

Micheal, I will take some now with eng/drives out and go from there, I am doing it because of the shock of seeing how much freeplay I had with tie bar off when pulling drives for winter checks

Yeah, my port side has side to side play. I haven't been able to get someone under the hatch to confirm where it's coming from; probably a little of each, swivel pin and steering linkage. Starboard side is good and solid though.

Before you start to take them apart you may want to spray the nuts and bolts down with penetrating oil and let it sit overnight. I just did the the transom assembly on my boat, now it was an Alpha, but they are basically the same. Well the two real long bolts that have nearly 2" engagement into the outer assembly were froze up and one snapped at the surface. Not to scare you but take your time.
