X dimension of a single engine cat

What is the tipical x dimension of a single engine cat. I measured mine and it is 1/2 inch below the lowest point on the outer sponson.
Thanks John

That is not X dimension. That is propshaft depth.

cobra marty 02-11-2008 01:02 AM

Mine is 3 inches above the lowest point of the sponsons.

Griff i thought the x dimension was the propshaft center.John good question.Been mucking for quite a while with my Daytona 27.Started off 2" shortie,X level with lowest point of sponsons.103mph,bit over half throttle,34 Bravo 1 on the limiter at 5800.Went 1 1/2 spacer.Could'nt get it to 5200 same prop. Now have 1/2 spacer, not tested yet but i think it will be the go.With the 1 1/2 spacer tried Maximus's and Bravo's,lot's of pitches but the setup never felt as good as with no spacer. Can't run the Maximus without a 1/2" spacer.Hope this helps.
Marty tell me more about the single engine 30 footer.

X dim is actually the crankshaft centerline. Propshaft depth is what really matters anyway and it can be changed with spacers and shorty drives.

I meant the prop depth sorry guys

I think it is also important to know what lower and prop you are going to run. I also think they are assuming you are talking about an outdrive vs outboard.

xr sportmaster drive bravo 1 prop thinking of tring a hydramotive cleaver

fastlane40 02-12-2008 03:03 AM

Wouldn't try the Hydromotive.Won't work with high X single engine cat.Need Bravo,Maximus or the Bravo style Hydromotive.

30' Cobra cat no center sponson similar to chris cat hull and a lot of others. was running lwp bravo one with 30" bravo prop 1.36 ratio and 700 sc 502 and would run 100mph. The propshaft is about 4" above the bottom of the sponsoms with a 2" spacerand anything over 80mph I would lose the speedo and over 90mph it would feel like it wanted to 'paddle wheel' sideways, not enough skeg in the water. Have been rerigging with stock 500efi and stellings box and lowered the engine and drive 5-6" and took out the spacer and hope to be on the water this summer with this new setup. I haven't checked the propshaft location with this new setup in a while. I will use a 26" bravo and will try a maximus later. Might need a 2" shorter lower IMCO unit. Want around 80-85mph with this new setup and more stability.

I guess it all depends on whats hanging on the back. My prop shaft is almost 5 inches above the lowest point on the sponsons.
