the mercury lowers are better for really high x-dimensions due to double the surface area on the skeg. it is slower uless you take the time to machine the skeg. i have seen a 2-2 1/2 mph gain by doing this. the other item is the merc lower doesnt send your water pressure thru the roof as the imco does at times.
it also has a different trail or foot print hydrodynamicly.

Floatindirty,

The SCX needs a different helmet to bolt to. The Imco helmet will fit a Merc HP gimbal ring or the Imco heavy duty gimbal.
List on the SCX, with a helmet is $15,513, plus shipping. They can be had for less. I am a dealer and can give you a price if you are interested.

Waconda,
There is no garantee that SCX slows a boat down by any mph. Any time you bolt on a differnt style drive, there are going to be setup issues. You order it with the 1 7/16" propshaft and it comes with a hub to go into the Bravo prop, or the recommend route is to go with the #6 prop with high X dim. It does cost a bit to switch, but if it ends a breakage problem, then it is an inexpensive way to go. As new designs come out, the setup for each boat will have to be discovered, so there is a learning curve.

I have been trying to do my home work on this but no one can tell me if I can raise my X dim on a 46 BT not even Roger or BOB at BT. And Imco thinks 5 to 10mph on that big of a boat, I can live with 5 but not 10 mph, and still no warranty on the drive so I'm having a hard time justifying spending the $$ when it may turn out that I still have the same drive problems.

Waconda,
What kind of life are you getting out of the XR's at this time? And how much bow lift does your present setup generate? Or does it ride flat with no lift?
I have a friend that is hoping to setup a large boat like yours with tripples, but we wont know until spring if this will happen or how it will turn out.

Floatin Dirty,
I missed that you are looking for price on the SC.. they run from $11,100, to $12,000, list price. But can be had for less.

Well first of all I have B-Max's
We just bought it in June and have put less than 15 hrs on the boat, but in that short time we have lost all 3 drives one after the other. But they were not set up correctly so I really can't say how long they are lasting, we haven't lost one scene I rebuilt them but the first one I did has about 11 hrs on it and still seems ok. The uppers had 300hrs on them and the gears had just started to show some wear on them as far as pitting on the gear surface. So right now they all have every thing new in them. It was always the lowers that broke either the vertical shaft or lower gear set which is Merc. So right now I'm juggling between taking the lowers back apart and having the gears and shafts frozen or having Imco make me a lower to fit the B-Max upper. Any thoughts?
The set up now is 2005 46 BT triple 850's, B-maxs, 26 pitch 5 blade Hydro Motive props, 1.32 ratio and top speed is 97 on GPS.
If I go with the Imco is there a advantage using the # 6 props over the bravo style?

hangem out 2dry 12-30-2008 07:41 PM

does someone make an adapter to run # 6 props on bravo's or do you have to change the shafts, and with #6 props I would think you would have to raise the x dim???

Pro Technologies (ProRoc) has a #6 conversion/upgrade for Bravos but it involves new shaft and internals.
