Bravo stuck in gear!!
 

I have a standard Bravo1, just had the vertical shaft in my upper replaced Friday cause i sheered it last weekend:mad:. When I took the boat off the trailer this weekend it shifted fine and manuvered around the dock with no problem or noise. After about a 30min run across the lake it was stuck in forward and wouldn't come out. I idled for about 10min and it started shifting again and was able to park at the dock with no problem. But it did the same on the way home when I got to the launch it wouldn't come out of gear till after about 10 min of ideling then it shifted fine and I was able to put it back on the trailer. I'm confused, if it were the clutch would I still be able to shift it? The guys at Precision Marine looked at the clutches while the drive was apart and they looked fine.

I know there are other post on here about bravo's sticking but I couldn't find one that had the drive shifting fine after they cool off. It's almost like its getting hot and sticking then cooling off and releasing. I do not have a drive shower and I'm pushing about 650hp. I've been told that showers don't cool enough to make a differance But its also rare to see a big power boat without one. Just cuious if this has happen to anyone?

If the cone clutch is slipping, it will expand from heat causing it to stick and when it cools back down, ie. idle time, it will contract and free up allowing you to shift again.

Improper oil oil can cause a funky shifting, and all the drive showers you see on bravo's are there for a reason, they work well, and with that HP, you need one.

when it hangs up put the other drive in reverse while you try to pull the stuck drive into neutral. It takes the load off the gears for a moment. It still is not OK.

I pulled the drive Friday and inspected what I could see everything looks good and it shifts through all gears fine, and the internals where just inspected when the drive was off last week. What could be causing the clutch to slip? It sounds like that is what my problem is. Could it be a problem with the shift cables? I just replaced the shift cable from the shifter to the shift bracket could it be an adjustment from the braket to the outdrive? Or is it more likely that the cone clutch is on the way out? Thanks everyone for the help.
