Life of XR with 575 SC
Are the XR'S reliable drives on a 42 fountain with 575'S ??
|
Wasn't the XR developed for the 575 sci originally? It is supposed to be able to handle 575 hp,600 tq.mike

Yes - they'll last. Keep the boat in the water and no full throttle hole shots and you'll get good life out of them.

I had a few problems by my boat was a 386 Sonic with extension boxes.

Keep the props in the water and you will be fine. I raced them at over 120 mph in a cat and did well

I've had a few problems also.
Stellings boxes ( no rubber coupler) and 5 blades probably aren't helping anything either. |

There was an update to the front seal on some of the first XR's. 2001 year I think. We went through the updates on our Apache with 575's . BTW, once the updates were done, this package has been trouble free and delivers great power. I have ran our 36 Pache single step to 84 mph GPS, during a short top speed run in less than ideal conditions (flat water) .
For what thats worth Oh, also, this boat is for sale too, I havn't addvertised it here yet. |
5 blades + big boat + 575SCi's = blown outdrive.
Stay w/ 4 blades |
In my opinion, after 470 hours and 7 years, my boat
is the limit for XR's. 35 foot, 8500 pound Nordic V-hull with 575SCi's bone stock. Go any bigger, heavier, more power, or cat, and forget Bravos. Learned this from watching people over the years with 38 foot and larger boats in the Catalina Ski Race. For me drive rebuilds have been on average every 3 years at $4000 per rebuild. Never had a catastrophic failure nor been left stranded. Pesky Varmint. |
