need help on what shorty needed on 25OL
 

wanting to install IMCO shorty on 2001 baja ol25 with 496 ho wondering which one would work best IMCO 2" is what i was told just checking to see if this is correct and does this retain the low water pickup?

Imco Shorty is less expesive than the Merc shorty (Sportmaster). Imco has lower water pickup, it can be had in standard, -1" and -2" lenghts. Shoot me a pm and I will give you a price and options.

mr. g will take care of you:D, I have a 2'' shortie on my baja 24ol and picked up 4 to 5 mph better handling in rough water too, flies level. bajas are deep about 7 to 71/2'' so 5 to 51/2'' is perfect for them with a box you could go another 1 to 2'' so a raised 3'' box with a 1''shortie, or a standard box with a 3'' shortie. hope that helps and MR, GADGETS will beable to beef up your drive and get you a good price. artie:D

yeah, I was doing some research as well. The 3" shorty would probably do best, but you can't do it with a stock upper.

My research shows IMCO seems to be a little faster than the sportmaster.
might be the smaller skeg- but not sure. Satin finish is a little faster than polished or painted.

yeah I hope there wrong I had the satin that got stolen so when I ordered the replacement went with polished it so nice ITS COOL HOPE just as fast:p:D

The Imco shorty is very good, and you will have no problem with the low water pickup. It is a direct bolt on swap with the standard lower.
Raising the propshaft is a generally the way to get some more speed out of a Baja hull. However, do not expect too much with standard 425 power. To be fast, a non stepped hull needs to lift its bow, shortening the wetted area.
But the higher propshaft reduces bowlift and slows the boat down. Adding more power pushes the bow back up and you benefit from the extra power AND less drive and less hull in the water.


I didn´t run the 425hp in my 25OL with a shorty (or any other lower than stock) , so I am only talking theory there. With 525 and 600hp the noseconed Imco shorty design definitely helps, reducing prop slip and reducing resistence.

I´ve also heard that Sportmasters only work good on 90+ mph settups, and definitely have to short and high, otherwise they are like an anchor. Imco shortys seem to work good at lower speeds, but the more power you have the better it will deliver.

Start by going to a 2" Imco shorty. That will raise your propshaft enough to make a small power upgrade work most effectively......
