Actually , the Alpha drive came with 454/330 HP.
So i would say YES you can put 330 HP on an Alpha .
Buddy of mine had a 32 Pachanga with two 330's and Alpha's.
Never had a problem.

Alpha's can handle higher HP levels behind a SBC much easier than a BBC. The extra torque the BBC makes will break the Alpha much easier. If you drive the boat with sense and do not hammer the holeshot you should be fine. Keep the prop in the water. Alpha shafts are far too weak to be wave hopping with a BBC.

I've ran 5 modded SBC's behind two different Alpha one drives. My current 385ci SBC makes around 475 flywheel HP and have had no problems with the Alpha. I did rebuild it with HD upper gears and a late model HD non oring vertical shaft.

you boats hull design and the weight of your boat will effect the reliability of the alpha when applying big power.

had a 454 330 / alpha on my 87 chris craft stinger 222 after 20 years the motor blew up but the drive is still fine

thanks for the info...the boat is a 24' Monza closed deck. doesnt weigh much.. wanted as little weight as possible in the back..

I run 640hp with 610 ft torque threw my Alpha. I would not run that on anything bigger then a 24 foot boat and 3800lbs or less.
