Volvo DPX question

I just got done doing some work on one of the DPX drives on one of the Batboats and filled it from empty with Merc HP. It has never shifted smoother or better. What is the recommended oil by Volvo and is it ok to use MercHP instead?

Volvo recommends their own Duraplus GL-5 synthetic. I was told it is a multi-viscosity 50w-90w made by Amsoil. Not sure if that part is true or not?

I have always had pretty good luck with HP in everything else i have just wonder if its compatible wit h the cone clutches in the DPX. I tell ya one thing i dont think it has ever shifted smoother.

Do you have Volvos on your AVS? i would trade the Bravos off my Scarab III in a heart beat for DPX's. Actually i have the motors out right now for freshening up. maybe i should start lookin for some parts

I do. I have the DPX 600 package. I previously owned an AVS w/ bravos and the DPX boat handles so much better it is like night and day.

I have a complete set of low hour drives I bought as spares. No gimbles or transom assemblies though.

I doubt that there should be an isuue with the HP and the cone clutches. I took one of my drives apart over the winter out of curiosity and the clutch pack is almost exactly the same as a Merc set-up IMO.

We have some stuff at the shop, I think an upper that needs some help and a lower that has had a few parts robbed. Would be willing to sell it pretty cheap. Let me know if you are interested and I will check out what we have and send you some pictures.

I always use the volvo synthetic in my DP-SM's as that is the only thing they recommend. It is pricy though. Volvo's just shift so smooth anyways!

I've been running Mobil 1 75w90 in my DPX's for 8 years - no problems.

Glassdave - I've still got a transom assembly, two 1.59 DPX-R's (70 hours each), a 1.47 DPX-A (200 hours) and a DPX-A upper (200 hours) if you're shopping.

Chuck can you PM me the prices again on what you have. Not trying to be evasive on the parts its just a matter of too many boats in the stable and not enough hay :D The R's would be fine for my ScarabIII dont ya think? The motors are just under 500hp a side. I have 2 complete Bravo assemblies i could off to help cover the cost, gotta gear up for the winter projects. also what would i need beside the transome/drives as far as internal stuff? Bell housings? mounts?

Do you still have these drives?

Redline Heavy Duty for my DPX. Don't know any different as I've used it since buying the boat 3 years ago. Shifting is definitely very smooth.
