They were still making 5's in 1998?

Hi there, did you ever sell these drives?
Cheers
Iain

I think the V's are a still a great drive for applications around 1000 hp and under. Gary Kollofski (screen name RMPRam) is now marketing OEM quality upper and lower gearsets for IIIA's and V's in the most common 1.48:1 ratio. Not that you hear a lot of stories of people breaking them, but that gave me more confidence to go that route with mine.

Bottom line, if you can't afford a set of #6's, or your transom is already drilled for III/IV/V, you can go straight to a V with or without extension boxes with very little work.

V's are great

Been running V's on a cat with 800+ hp for six+ years with no problems. The only down side is props, just not as much to choose from as a Bravo.

Thanks for the "plug" for the gears. I will have new LH and RH, 1.125:1 lower gears available for the #3A and #5 drive next week. Just started production on the discontinued LH lower gears for the old #6 wet-sump drives. They will be available in March/April 2011.

Not to dig up an old thread, and first time posting here, but I was wondering if you (Gary) were still making gear sets for SSM 5 drives or had any? Looks like your profile says you’re based out of Santa Barbara, if so I live just up the way in San Luis Obispo and would love to pick your brain about the #5 drives. Thanks for your time. RMPRam

Not sure what you're after, but a few things:
- Gary stopped making these. I know because I needed a new upper gear set last year / year before. He still has a few lowers on hand? Select gear ratios.
- There are a few guys around that will have parts for these: Colabella, Cobra, Marine Performance Unlimited (Florida) - I bought two gear sets from them last year.
- I will have a set for sale later this year with new gears in them, possibly also the gimbal assemblies. I have other misc parts, not many.

Thanks for the reply frickstyle . I’m not after anything quite yet, but I was looking at buying an eliminator Daytona that has a #5 drive, and as I was doing some research on the drive I was quickly realizing the parts are pretty much non existent if I ran into issues with it. Thus I wanted to reach out to anyone to see if the parts were truly that hard to
find or if there were parts actually around still.
