Another question to add to this thread and stir the ideas alittle more. I have always had a wet bilge for years. I have changed out and replaced the bellows and shift cable bellows on both sides and still get a good amount of water into the bilge. I could have a perfectly dry bilge, put the plug in and back the boat down the launch ramp. By the time I unhook the boat and walk back with the hatch up i can actuall see an 1" to 2" of water already in the bilge. A merc. mechanic friend said it could be the upper seal that is around the vertical pin that the gimball ring is attached by the steering arm not sure what seal he is talking about. Any ideas and comments
You have two options - take the engines out, transom assemblies off and fix them that way, or you can do this method - http://www.jrmarine.com/instructions.htm Mine are leaking so I am pulling my engines in the Spring to fix. |
Quick Bellows Question
My buddy has his boat at a shop that says they have to pull the gimbal ring to replace bellows on a Bravo drive. I never did that. Is that correct or are they just moving stuff out of the way for nothing?

they're doing the gimbal bearing and bellows. does that mean they're still moving the gimbal ring for no reason and lubing him up?

bearing ( 10 mon. with the right tool ), after the drive is off. |
reguardless of how good it looks...why reuse bellows?? new ones are cheap insurance.
