need to update XR Drives ??
 

Hello group, i had purchased a set of XR Drives last summer and now i have updated the motors to 1000HP with lot's of torque and need to update the drives. Any suggestions? I know SSm#6 is the way to go, but the work that goes into it and moving the back seat and transmission gets very costly. Has anyone used anything different that would be a replacement of the Bravo drives, which will handle the torque and the power???

There is not any drive that is going to hold up to that much power except the #6. I have spoke to Imco and the do have some of the scx drives on big power but no info on how long they are lasting. Good luck!

Arneson makes a bravo replacement that has the transmission in a extension box so the engine does not have to be moved but I don't know what the power rating is for that model.

That's great advice right there. Any bravo behind 1000hp and a heavy boat will be short lived. If the Arneson isn't what your looking for, check out the new Imco drive. I believe it's the SXC(?). It seems to be placed between an XR, and a six, in terms of durability.

The SCX is new and when I talked to Imco before the holidays, I was told they have not received any complaints. The bullet is larger and setup has to be done to compensate for it. Just what that takes is up to each combination. Nice thing about it, it's pretty close to a bolt on. Needs a differnt helmet, and only fits the Merc HP gimbal or the Imco gimbal. I got a chance to put my eyes on a new SCX and it is a very nice piece of equipment. You can see they put a lot of thought into it's development! Being a new drive I was unable to look inside.. :( Maybe in the future.
There are others available and more coming on the market. Upgrading to #6's, well you might consider buying one with them already. Any way you go, it isnt cheap! Just some routes may be better than others!!

maybe some older wet sump 6s would be a good choice?

go with some wet sump 6's, don't even waste your time with any other drive, they just wont hold up, you'll be down all summer and spend a fortune

The #7M will handle the power with no problems. Can't say that of the others and they are less expensive than the IMCO.
