Bravo Education?

I'd like to find a good used Bravo drive to keep as a spare.

Other then the obvious condition and history whay else do I need to know about finding a match? Gear ratio?

When rebuilding drives can I find stronger then stock parts?

BTW. I love the support from OSO members. I've learned so much from everyone.

I have one I took off my small block tunnel hull.
I have the gimbal, and the whole thing complete with a lower unit & drive shower.
Its a 93 and the gimbal is a 2001. 1.5 ratio.
changed oil every 40 hours.

The small block didnt make much low end torque, and only spins to about 5500 so I never had a drive issue - only gimbals without steering this gimbals got hammered and I replaced them when play became more than about 1/4 inch when lifting the skeg from the bottom.

Its never seen a drop of salt water- my tunnel id only 21 feet so no ocean only lakes and rivers.

The reason I changed it at all is that I added an ITS to the boat last season because 80+ MPH with no steering is scary, and it wouldn't bolt up with out mods so I just bought a new unit.

First 1,500.00 takes it all.

Gadgets or arctic could rebuild a unit for you, or get you parts. Or we could send it to on of them and they could "bless it" for you.

What details will show me that this is a match to what I currently have. For instance... there must be a way I can find the ratio will match mine. Are there model #, casting#, serial # or any info that will tell me EXACTLY what I have and EXACTLY what I need. I have to belive not all Bravos are created equally.

Correct they are not all the same, but most are 1:5 - the ratio is in the lower unit.

Id say Dennis R' drive would probably be what Id go for if I were you. It's been rebuilt and Gadgets can do the homework for you.

make sure the oil drain plug is in the same location then you can just swap lowers if you need to

it will ,you have to change the gimbal bearing thats it. it sounds like he has stock bravos so your drive will work the one above has a imco lower so it won't match. so ona you should look at your drives at the #s to see 1.5 or 1.36 thats it. and bills is 1.5 your all set. there was a diff case when they came out in 1988 then in 1999or2000 they changed the lower case made it longer. so if you have 93 lowers its the same as bills and a gimbal used with a b1 drive is a sweet deal, on used drives it had to find one at 1500. go for it
