Which Bravo drive?

What bravo drive was hooked up to a 2003 496 Mag HO? Boat is 350 miles away and I can't tell from pictures. Is Bravo 1 standard?

It could be Bravo1, X, or, XR. Depends on what the owner wanted.

Darrell.

Pardon my ignorance...I was thinking they put a more beefier outdrive than the regular bravo 1 outdrive behind the mag HO

Griff 02-10-2009 12:55 PM

Its most likely a Bravo 1 X.

Standard bravo one on the earlier ones was standard, however they did start packaging them with the B1x as the unit that went with 496 Mag ho I think around 04, also yes you could usually upgrade toa heavier version yet if you wanted to.. ;) Jamie..

Will an XR outdrive bolt on to a standard bravo setup. Is the gimbal bearing the same or is the shaft going through the gimbal bearing bigger?

Griff 02-11-2009 12:27 PM

You need to change the gimbal bearing.

Mercury has used the same bearing since the begining of time the only difference in any of them is the length of an ITS U joint assembly. They do have a couple different Ujoint configurations but they all fit each other.
