alpha one ss lower unit
what i think i have is a lower from an alpha one ss. can some one identify it for me? its has 2#'s on it. 1647 9559-c on the inside and another one v87b151 stamped into it on the outside. if it is not what is it? and will this bolt up to an alpha one upper? that is my main concern. please help!

YEP, that's an Alpha SS lower, built in 1987, will bolt to an Alpha 1 upper, however, you need the short vertical shaft from an SS, which is no longer available from Merc.

i got this togther with some help from E.R. with all new gears (1.32) and everything else you can think of except for the prop and drive shaft but i took the best used ones. i used a regular alpha one upper so the same drive shaft is used. it looks sic and im stoked. jay

im raising the x-dimension almost 2" so basically i will have a shorter drive. the whole boat is getting totally redone and my transom is all glassed in solid and ready to be recut in the higher position. have the jig ready to go.

Just read the whole thread, very impressive project, great workmanship. I imagine you'll be like a proud papa on splash day. I did a minor resto on mine, 4'x4' piece of floor, but nothin' compared to your project. I wouldn't worry to much about the Alpha, you may not be able to hammer it hard out of the hole, mine has been standing up well with 440 w/o nitrous sbc, but if I get on it hard out of the hole, it blows out the prop anyway with the shorter SS. Even though you are running the BB, the torque is probably real close.
