Imco Sc or Teague Platinum

Does anybody have any first hand experience running 700 plus hp on sc or teagues. I'm looking to upgrade my XR's.

My IMCO's are holding up pretty well......after I stopped abusing them with my right hand.
They are just XR gears inside, but some of the shafts are better than the Merc stuff.
I have broken one 2 times, but I think it was because of the 1st failure & being in a hurry to get back on the water, not taking the time to inspect everything before it went together.

They both use the XR gears, which is the weak link.

Having said that, The Teague uses an XR upper, and a IMCO lower, with an IMCO vertical shaft and other IMCO internals. The Teague is meticulously assembled.

The IMCO has a stronger upper case as well as a stronger upper cap.

I have an IMCO SC behind 750 hp of Supercharged motor with about 9% slip on a Hering 5 blade prop. It is a fairly light boat though, weighing about 4800 lbs dry.

Chris

Here is a pic of the IMCO upper compared to a XR upper (Teague).

Check out the Max Machine package. In 8 yrs using the MMW drives, with twin 750+ HP in a 30' Vee that weights 9000+ lbs has never had a drive failure.

Max Machine is a great drive also... but the XR gears are still the weak link. I do like the extra bearing in the lower.

I think that the ultimate brave style drive right now would be an IMCO SCX upper with a Max Machine lower. They have yet to break an SCX... its just that the lowers are so big, that they slow the boat down. The weak link would be the lower gears, but the MM lower is more ridged, and the lower gears rarely go out on bravo style drives... it is usually the uppers.

Just my .02 cents

Chris

CB,
Friend of mine just put a pair of SCX's on his boat and on the first trip out, ran within a couple of mph of his original speed. Waiting to see what happens with different props.

I've got a suggestion that won't break and will gain you speed:drink:
