Water in TRS?
I just put on this used TRS that I bought and noticed that I got water in the drive on my first drop in the water. I pulled the boat out of the water to fix the drive and noticed that where the drive bolts to the gimble housing it seems to be leaking. Hard fix? Is that mostlikly where its getting water from? Please help thanks

How did you notice it had water in it?How much water was there? Was it backing up in to the reservoir? What was leaking where the drive bolts on water or oil.

If the bellow is fine ,,it can't be the seal from the shaft.
The big o- ring only keeps water out of the bellow. maybe the oiling valve ???? But most likely its the propshaft,,never heard of them leaking at the gimbal ??? :party-smiley-004: |
My guess becasue thies exact thing happened to my land lord were I have my shop is that you caught the oil passage seal when you installed the drive. I ussually put silicone around that area of the gasket when I install the drives. If you are getting oil out that area then you will get water in the same location. I bet if you pull the drive you will find that seal dented in, ussually at the top from what I have seen.

If the drive is full of oil water can't go in on it's own will. There's no where for it to go.It usually has to be forced in.Check the leading edge for any small cracks. If none it could be forced in through the prop shaft seal or carrier seal when using reverse. You could pressure test it if you wanted. Regardless you still need to have the drive resealed.
