Prop shaft tolerances

How far out of true can a Merc outboard prop shaft safely be used? A friend wacked the prop in his 80 MPH bass boat hard enough to bend his SS prop.

No offense Pick, but I would appreciate an additional confirmation on an acceptable prop shaft run out.

Don't know what you want to hear as far as additional confirmation but it would be 8 thousand's run out on a dial indicator running on the aft end of the shaft.

I just looked it up for you and the book specks say .007 max. To see for your self hear is a link to a newer style merc drive sevice manual. To open this book up what you will need to do is copy it and then go up and past it in the address bar of your online internet and wait about 2-5 min then it will open up and then scrole down to page 3-B10 and you will see how they do it with the numbers you will want to see. you will need to increase the size to 75% to see it better. Well I hope this helps make feel better on what to look for, Good luck with it.:drink:http://www-alt.mercurymarine.com/mne...28/28cover.pdf
