Nose Cone, Proper Attachment, How?
 

Nose cone came loose (saw it before it fell off!). TRS drive, looks like it was held on by bondo? Maybe took in some water over the years and got soft. Was thinking of cleaning and prepping then using black 100% silicone, then re-bondo the transition area? What do I really need to do to do it correctly? Epoxy? Liquid Metal? Any help is appreciated....

http://www.bobsmachine.com/ minus the fixture, I squared it up by tapping the nose cone and adjusting into place with some bolts, then tack welded. I did use the fiberglass bondo, but I think the prefered method is the epoxies.

Also not sure if your drive is exposed to freezing temps, but mine cracked from when water got in behind and could not drain out. I drilled mine and filled with fiber glass resin.

Hydromotive gives you a 2 part epoxy like JB Weld for gluing them on and then recommends bondo to make the transition.Are you just loosing some bondo or is the thing going to fall off? If it's just some bondo getting soft grind it out and re bondo.Only place you want to use silicone is over the drain pug hole to level it off.Then you can always remove it when you need to drain.I put a short piece of 1/2" copper pipe where the drain plug is and bondo around it.then twist and pull it out when the bondo is almost dry.Leaves a nice hole to your drain to fill and level off with silicone.This is only if you have a cone that interferes with your drain plug. Hydromotives do.No way will silicone hold the nose cone on.
