Water in Bellows - Cost?

I have a 2005 Nordic. Bravo 1. Water in the bellows, corroded gimbal and u-joints. I was quoted approximately $2,000(parts + labor) to replace the bellows, gimbal and u-joints. 560 for the gimball, 1450 for the u-joints.

I do not have a frame of reference for this expense. Does this seem reasonable? It is a Mercury certified shop, seems really reputable, but this is my first time at the shop. I am searching for a new shop after being dissatisfied with the previous shop. The last guy has left me a little, shall we say, skeptical.

Also, it seems really early to me to have this problem. Is there anything I might have done to cause this to occur, or is it just bad luck or workmanship from the last guy who serviced the drive?

Which shop is it?

the total does not seem way out of line the gimball bearing can be very time consuming if it is corroded in there and some times has to be drilled out. a four year old boat that has been maintained should not normally need this. it is possible that you ran the boat with the drive trimmed up to high and the u joints chafed through the bellows.
