bravo engagement issues

1999 hustler 388 slingshot. bravo 1 performance drives. The port drive will have a delayed gear engagement. You drop it in and it takes 20 seconds to "clunk in" where should I start? I know there is one cable from the shifter to that linkage assy and then a cable from that to the drive. I have replaced the ones from the drive to bracke but had to borrow some special tools to have it perfectly adjusted.

What do you guys think? The star shifts normally.

had the same issue with mine....it's a trial and error method and make sure you have some there to run it and try shifting while you make very slight adj at the bracket..took me a bit but got it and works great now..Rob

did you have to replace anything or did you just come out of adjustment?

Before You Start Playing With The Shift Adjustment, There Is A Tool That Is Made For Setting The Foward And Reverse Gear,

Yes - you need to fabricate a tool like this.

I took a pain stirrer from Sherwin Williams, cut it about 6 inches long, and cut a slit in it with a skill saw that was the width of the cable. Worked perfect.

yeah, i have the mercruiser tools available to me... Just was wondering if i was pointing myself in the correct direction of cable or drive....

the cables seem to move freely and have the correct ammount of travel. Now if you put it into a foreward gear it will lock in but if you put power to it, it shudders and comes in and out of gear. if you put it in reverse and then slam it into foreward it will stick in gear. I'm wondering if something happend in the drive.
