Is my shower pickup on the wrong side?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../thunder11.jpg
I bought it this way but after some reading.. IF A PICKUP OF ANY LENGTH OR SHAPE IS INSTALLED ON THE "WRONG" SIDE OF THE ANTI-CAVITATION PLATE, YOUR CHANCES OF CAVITATION PROBLEMS ARE DRASTICALLY INCREASED. IF YOUR PROP TURNS CLOCKWISE VIEWING IT FROM BEHIND, THE PICKUP MUST BE INSTALLED ON THE LEFT, OR PORT, SIDE OF THE DRIVE. IT MAY WORK ON THE OTHER SIDE BUT NOT TO IT'S POTENTIAL WITHOUT RUNNING THE RISK OF PLANING, STEERING OR EFFICIENCY PROBLEMS. THE SECOND REASON IS LESS DRAG. MORE PICKUPS MEAN MORE DRAG AND LESS EFFICIENCY. IT IS POSSIBLE TO ACTUALLY SCRUB SOME TOP END SPEED BY HAVING MORE THAN ONE PICKUP, MAINLY BECAUSE THE SECOND PICKUP IS ON THE "WRONG SIDE" OF THE DRIVE! THE THIRD REASON IS THAT THE WATER FLOW AT THE HYDRO COOL ll IS SO TIGHTLY CONTROLLED THAT WE CAN ACHIEVE MAJOR DROPS IN TEMPERATURE WITH A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF WATER. I`ll remount it but now I`ll have a hole in the cav. plate. Any ideas on a fix? |
Usually its recommended the shower pickup be on the same side as the prop 'up-sweep'. I wouldn't move it unless you find some detrimental performance.

Unless you know it is properly working without causing any issues I would put it where it should be.. You can fill the little hole in the cav plate with epoxy. You could use masking tape on the underside of the drive to help keep the epoxy in place & it will also help keep the fill flat.. Sand it smooth & touch up with Phantom Black.. ;) Jamie / Lakeside

My prop is turning left and my shower pickup is on the left side of the cavitation plate.
I have no cavitation and my prop slip is less then 10%. As stated in the previous reply if it does not affect your performance leave it alone. bl |
