Bravo Internals - Identifying the "good stuff"
Question for the resident bravo gurus:
Purchased a drive from swap that was supposed to have the following: IMCO Gears & Shafts New mercury cone clutch Motion HD bearings My question is if its possible to identify these parts versus stock parts? I had issues with the drive staying in gear and had to tear open the upper. The upper gear set was a few thou shorter and the gold or bronze lip was worn away on one side. I'd like to identify this stuff before getting any more pissed. Offhand it is looking like it was the old bait and switch... |

Imco used to weld the floors of the thin floored gears and reheat treat them. If they are the thin floored gears and are truely Imco they will have weld at the lower end of the cone clutch seat and the floor. They also have a larger thrust bearing below the gear.
If the gear stack is too short it will rub on the brass ring. You would have to shim the pinion gear deeper to get the proper lash.. Caged and non caged inner bearings are available for the old style gears. The new ones (thick floors) only have the stock bearings and the ones that max works sells with spacers. It is a shorter bearing than the stock one. Dick |
