Bad Hydraulic Line Replacement
 

I have to replace a bad line that runs from the pump to the transom assembly. I'm going to replace both the grey and the black lines. I didn't get real involved tonight but I dropped the hydraulic manifold on the bottom of the transom assembly. Is there any useful tricks for doing this job?

Disconnect the lines one at a time from the manifold.Tie a string to the end of the line outside.Pull the line inside the boat to you get to the string. Cut the string outside and tie your new hose to it.Pull it in through the manifold hole.Repeat for the other line.

Call me stupid but I want to pull the old hose into the boat and pull the new hose into the boat from the outside. Correct?

You got it Scott. Disconnect one line from the manifold. Disconnect the same line from the pump. Go outside the boat and pull on the disconnected line a little so you can tie string to it. Tie the new line to that line. Push the line in the gimbal as far as you can. Now go in the boat and gently pull on the disconnected line until it comes through the gimbal with the new line tied to it. I've also been able to feed the line through not tied to anything, but the motor was out. I'm not sure how much room you have in your bilge to do it the easy way...

Thanks for the help guys. Don't have much room inside. It's gonna be a PIA. Have that "Y" pipe in the way for the silent choice.

Well with the help of my good friend Walt. Had both lines replaced in about 2.5hrs. John, you probably wish you went boating today. Eagles were bad.

make sure you put some tape over the end of the new lines before you pull them through so you don't get any dirt or other things in the new lines.

Already was a done deal. Went really smooth. Everything working fine.
