SEI drive paint durabilty

Anyone know on how the paint on these drives hold up compared to the paint on genuine Merc drives?

I have had no complaints nor have I seen any significant deterioration of the paint on on any of the dozen or so drives I've installed.

I chipped mine up a bit installing it, but have been running it, and no problems yet, gonna run it again this weekend.

Thanks. Going to be installing a couple of these on my cruiser that lives in the water. I know Merc has a paint system that is more than just paint to combat corrosion. Don't know if SEI just paints them or uses the same type of process.

Not sure, I didnt see any zinc chromate where mine chipped, but you cant beat the price!!

sucks

...but not hard to strip off for a fresh coat of self etching primer and two part single stage urethane...

plan on a water pump impeller change early as well - at least if your experience is anything like mine have been. otherwise great and a good deal for the price.

I've been running one on my Powerplay for a few years now, and I also noticed there is no primer on the drive. How do I put this... the paint held up well and is durable and shiny, BUT it did not "stick" well to the aluminum without primer. Mechanically the drive is great, I've beat the crap out of it with no issue's, but cosmetically the paint is chipping and flaking off. If I were in salt water, I would repaint the drive correctly before it even hit water.
