which washer goes where...UGH!!!!
I need a bit of help Please!
Does anybody know the assembly sequence for the bolts that attach the transmission to the gimbal. I am told each transmission uses 2 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 large washers, 2 smaller washers, 2 lock washers and 4 felt washers. I have looked at several different assembly scenarios but none really make sense. The parts list on this site http://www.perfprotech.com/store/ass....aspx#assembly was great for ordering but as you can see they call out several different part numbers all as item "22" on the drawing which is useless. :angry-smiley-038: so what is the correct assembly procedure? Thanks! :drink: |
I believe the stackup from top to bottom is bolt-large washer-transmission tailstock-felt washer-spring washer-felt washer-transom assembly-small washer-nut
The felt washers and spring washer get sandwiched between the transmission tailstock and the transom assembly, and the spring washer should fit inside of the felt washers. I have a factory TRS install manual at home, I'll scan it if the above doesn't help. |
OK here's how they go. (couldn't get my scanner to work). This is out of the Mercury Manual #9.
First on the transom assembly put grease around the inside of the hole the tail stock large o-ring is going to slide into. Then on the 2 mounting blocks on the transom assembly put a large steel washer, then a fiber washer, then a lock washer(looks like lock washer sits in center of fiber washer). Then the rear engine mount goes down on them. Now on top of the rear engine mount goes a fiber washer first then one of the smaller washers then the bolt goes through everything and the elastic stop nut goes on the bottom.Torque to 100 ft. lbs. Manual DOES NOT show a washer under the nut. Lock washers are only in there to maintain a ground. |
