powdercoating drives

My drives are in need of repainting and i was thinking of having them powdercoated after I tear them apart to go through them. Is there any issues with the heat from this process warping anything?

I would paint them. Once powdercoating gets a chip, it turns to chit. It will get little bubbles under the PC and then start chipping and peeling all over.

Griff,

Do you know what paint Merc uses?

.

No, but I believe it is just an enamel. If I was going to repaint mine, I would probably go with Imron.

I know a guy that uses a good epoxy primer and Dupont Centari Enamel..
I have seen power coating flake off as has been mentioned. If you can keep the coated stuff out of the water, it seems to hold up better.. :(

thinking of painting mine this winter as well, Imron Paint... does this stuff need a clear coat ? Sometimes I leave the boat in the water for two weeks, any problems with that and the Imron, besides getting a little dirty/ skummy?

No paints are actually recommended for below water line use, but Imron holds up about the best. Imron is actually a line of paint. There is a version that use a basecoat/clear and a version that does not require a clear.
