I have heard of no Mechanical Issues ....only that Paint does not hold up well ......for 900.00 and 3 years warranty ..hard to beat .....m

My marina and the 2 marine dealers I talked to all 3 use them and all said never an issue with them. I'll be getting 2 complete Alphas this spring do to the reviews and warrenties.

A slip neighbor installed 1 last spring, when he pulled his boat out in the fall, the paint was really ate up though. His is an old boat with an electrical system that has a lot to be desired, so he might have a lot of electrical current in the water around his boat eating away at the drives. But I have also heard the paint process is far from as durable than Mercs.

have used there alphas with no issues other than the wp impellers suck i would change them to merc impellers before bolting the drives together.

Running one of their outboard lowers(same as alpha) for 6 months, I run it hard, and no problems.

I wish they would make a shorty lower.

sikinboat 02-11-2010 05:50 PM

yeah a shorty and a alpha ss with bullet nose would be sweet

I wonder how they work over 80 mph as far as prop slip, i know with bravo1 you can put on a nose cone for higher speeds and gain mph due to better slip numbers.

We have been selling the SE drives for about 2 years, alpha and bravo, and I have never gotten a complaint... The big upside in going with Merc is that if something does happen you dont have to ship it back to clearwater to get it fixed. and your local merc dealer also takes care of the labor.

Can you deal on 2 complete Alpha 116's, standard and counter-rotation?
