Volvo SX drive, how much hp?
 

Just picked up a cat with a 1994 Volvo Penta SX drive. I was weary about it at first but I've been told that although it's based on the cobra, it's actually a pretty cool drive and that 500-600hp won't be a problem.

I had figured on eventually glassing it up and putting on a bravo at some point, but now maybe not.

Any body have any experience or opinions on these things?

i have a 21ft 1988 sunrunner with a 400hp small block chevy vortec built by jason sarris of performance marine with a volvo 290a with a 15x23lh ss prop and i was told these aquatic and sx drives can handle close to 500hp

the volvo sx is a far cry from the cobra's, no comparision, the cone shift in the sx will handle a lot of power.

I would say 550hp without an issue. They go behind everything a Bravo would. Volvo has the SX which they install from the 3.0 to the 496/502mag. If you wanted to compare it, it would be better compared to a bravo drive not a cobra.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear, looks like my old Banks TT system has finally found a new home!!
