trs pinion bearing problem. HELP?

last october on our last ride i blew up of my trs drives. i sent it to my marina to have it rebuilt my mechanic said the lower wasn't any good because the pinion bearing is not pressing into it's location. it slides in with finger pressure. i then brought in a spare lower, and he says this one is doing the same thing with the pinion bearing.

Is this true or possible?
Does anyone know of anyone who has had this issue?
and can it be repaired with some type of speedy sleeve?
both of my lower case were fresh water drives so no corrosion or cracks they are in really good shape. I also know they are fixing the thread area for the bearing carrier just hoping someone has dealt with this and can be fixed.:evilb:

It's a prety common problem. When the lower gear breaks the case distorts and stretches.

What I've found is when the TRS blows, the cases are usually junk.

but it didn't break the cases. the pinion bearing isn't pressing in as tight as it should i guess from what my mechanic told me.:evilb:

I'm no expert on this but I've had the same experience as Kurt. Once the lower goes the case is scrapped, they don't need to crack they move just enough to cause an alignment problem.

ok thanks for the help.:evilb:
