prop pitch way off

Took boat out finally ran great except bad cavitation trying to get on plane. on plane very smooth handle good. 2000 firehawk cat (looks like a AO) 2600, 600HP 1.50 gear Has a 3 blade 27P think I need a 4 blade but have no idea of pitch

picklenjim 04-22-2010 09:57 PM

Usually when you go from a 3 blade to a 4 blade you go down one size in pitch. Need to know your RPM's at WOT to know what pitch you actually need.
By the way are you running cleavers?

firehawkcat 04-22-2010 10:01 PM

Just bought the boat dont know a whole lot about it. Motor has 10hrs wot rpm about 5400 dont know speed forgot the dam gps not cleavers

firehawkcat 04-22-2010 10:03 PM

I agree, probably a 26 or 28 Bravo, depending on what RPm he wants to turn the motor. We run a 26 AO, and it is tought to prop also, Ray would know for sure his pitch, but it I am sure it is somewhere in the area of a 28 Bravo.

Griff 04-23-2010 04:12 PM

I would start with a 28" Bravo 1. It seems like it should be about an 80mph boat or so.

fastscarab22 04-23-2010 05:28 PM

I listed a 26 repitched to a 27 bravo one , labbed by bblades perfect blade $ 500.00 shipped

firehawkcat 04-23-2010 06:29 PM

thanks for the advise on pitch i'll give the 28 pitch a trial run and see what happens

picklenjim 04-23-2010 10:38 PM

IMO if your having blowout problems with the 27P 3 blade then you need to go to a 25P 4 blade.

firehawkcat 04-24-2010 07:09 PM

Got a couple of test props 4blade 26p and 28p try tomorrow if it quits raining thanks for all the advise

I agree, should check the slip #'s and make sure he is not slipping too much on the top end, if so, custom prop work may be in order, these 26 cats are hard to prop.

firehawkcat 04-28-2010 08:18 PM

Before I purchase I'm going to test a couple more props going to take the 28p and try a 30p the rpms were about 2600 and jumped to 3000 when it slipped just as nose dropped had to feather sticks a little for plane Johnson Brothers Marine at LOTO will let you take a test prop for free and keep it for a week so i will keep testing for a bit

What are your WOT RPM's?? I know it will slip coming on plane, sounds just like the AO, just before the nose drops, feather it back, let the nose drop, then get back into it, it should stick, then tell us the WOT trimmed out RPM, and we can go from there.
