How to change fluids on Bravo 3
 

I am new to the Mercruiser Bravo 3. I had an alpha one many years ago and was able to do my own general maintenance then. But this looks like a lot more animal to maintain. I have a Sea Ray Sundancer 280 5.7 Liter /w Bravo 3 duo prop. I do not know how to check or drain the lubrications on the outdrive or engine. If any one would be kind enough to explain how to maintain all lubricants including the out drive and engine on my boat I would be extremely grateful. I know on my old alpha one the there was a vent plug on the top and a drain/fill plug on the bottom. Some grease fittings on the out drive and one on the gimble bearing. My old alpha engine was a 350 Chevy and anyone with a common sense a wrench could change the oil on the motor. I really do not know where to start on this new boat/engine. I use to be a generalized common sense mechanical person on cars and boats but this all looks a little foreign to me. I would appreciate any help on this matter.

to check your fluid level there should be a round or square bottle that is in engine compartment should have a full line check when everything is cool to change gear lube
drain and fill from bottom drain plug Useing a pump fill from bottom until it starts coming out of vent hole reinstall vent plug and continue pumping until there is about 1" of lube in resivore, remove pump and reinstall fill plug,then top off resivore in engine compartment must fill from bottom up or you will trap air and not get the proper amount of lube

Ok thanks for the info. Is there any grease joints on a Bravo 3 that need TLC?

I would grease gimble bearing and engine coupler dont want those to go bad they are a real pain to change If this is a new boat hopefully marine did its job but i would check any way A good manual is a mercury #28 bravo stern drives or a seloc mercruiser stern drive manual they are like a haynes or chilton manual for cars gives step by step got mine off ebay

Hey I really appreciate the information you have given me on what I need to do here on my boat to get it ready for use. To answer your question the boat is used the year is a 2001. I am really wanting to make sure it is in working order before I really start using it this summer. I have been broken down on the water before in one of my old boats and it is a helpless feeling I am trying to avoid. I am in a bit of a pinch without having an mercruiser manual to give me this kind of information. I will definitely be purchasing a manual from your suggestion. Again thank you....
