Bravo one timing marks still can't get it set up right
 

Below I have a picture of inside my Bravo one outdrive. I'm trying to install my ujoint assembly so I have to align the + and -. In the book it says that they are supposed to be on top of each other. If you look at the pictures you can see that It's impossible for me to do that because when I align the timing marks up they are on opposite sides of the index marks as you can see below. How exactly can I get these ligned up correctly? When I just put the + and - on top of each other the index marks next to the timing marks don't align because the + and - are on opposite sides, they are never on top of each other with the index marks also being align. Hopefully someone can help me out I need help badly!!! I've posed this before but I don't think its being understood correctly. Any help would be so greatly appreciated I'm almost done with this thing and I thought aligning two marks was goin to be easy but it's not.

Just line up the gears so that the vertical lines are in the
same plane, but + on one - on the other.

I use the pinion bearing lube hole in the bottom front
part of the case as a reference point for centering.


The brass part of the gears are the eccentric rings,
they need to be 180* apart from each other is what
your basically trying to accomplish.

is the reason to align the marks is for it to shift?

I drew it out so it would help me explain it a little bit into more detail. I apologize if it seems elementary to some people, but the reason why I am so confused is because the first picture below is what the mercruiser manual says it should look like when ligned up. Yet the second picture, I drew what mine looked like when I ligned them up both times.

this is exactly how they looked when I tried to align them up both times, would this be aligned? or does the + or - literally have to be on top of each other that's what I'm getting confused about

I know exactly what you mean. I have never gotten mine to be as perfect as your picture even though it clearly says you should.

Two of mine when back together just like yours and they both shift and run fine and I'm not a guy to cut corners.

The further out they are the harder it will be to engage but again you will be fine as close as you are.

I doesn't make any difference they just have to be opposite and it will be fine.
Put it together and go boating.

You're good, doesn't matter where the + and - are as long as you don't have - lined up with - or + lined up with +. All this does is help the gears disengage.
