question on xr drive servicing

I have done a few searches; are there any good step by step how-to's on outdrive servicing? I am getting tired of paying to have this done all the time, I want to start doing it myself.

Embarassingly enough, I am really looking for a step by step on how to drain and change the gear lube. Why do you have to pump the fluid in from the bottom and not drain it and fill it from the gear lube resorvoir?

thanks.

you can trap air from pouring it from the top , drive will appear full of lube then next thing you know your lube level is low once you drive it

they sell the pump at walmart for around 8- 10$

and spend another $10 for a small garden sprayer and connect the drive fitting to the garden sprayer. Fill the garden sprayer with drive fluid then connect and fill the drive with it. (only use this garden sprayer for drive fluid..EVER)

you need both.........you need the fitting from the pump kit that screws into the drive. The garden sprayer is simply used as a pressure device to deliver the fluid. The pump kit alone works but you connect it to a one quart bottle and have to pump it 200 dam times.....then switch to a second quart bottle and pump it another 200 dam times before you get all the fluid in the drive. With the garden sprayer you simply pour the fluid in, pump it up and hold the lever while the fluid goes in (it will take 5-10 minutes)

t500hps is correct it is at least 200 pumps

Amsoil makes a nice pump which works with a gallon container, and pumps alot of fluid. You still need the fitting for the end of the hose though.
