I have the same problem! Could it be the coupler? U joints? Mine sounds in the outdrive and sounds like 2 gears chattering to me, on mine anways. Guestion is there anyway to get to the coupler grease fittings also? thanks

Grease fittings should be on the back of the engine on the coupler metal hub.. Just lean over the back of the motor and have someone hold on to your feet.. :)

Hey Dick
I ran a series of tests today and here are the results:
1.) Pulled drive and inspected ujoints and Gimbal: all in excellent shape
2.) Pull top cap of drive for visual inspection: no metal flakes , water , damage or marbles:)
Note: moved prop shaft back and forth by hand and notice what I consider normal gear lash
3.) Ran boat on the hose and tried the broom stick trick: no change

So unless I hear otherwise I’m going for a ride this weekend.
