Stelling Ext Box Driveline Maintenance Interval?

What is the recommended timeframe for greasing the u-joints and the carrier bearing in the box? How long do the u-joints normally last before needing replacement? Has anyone had a catastrophic failure for the driveline and what happened?

Just trying to get some history of the longevity of these units.
Thanks,
Kevin

If you grease them, the Ujoints should last a very long time. I bought my boat used, but I think all the U joints and carrier bearing are original(1997). I grease all the zerts in mine at every oil change which is about every 30-40 hrs.

As a precaution, we used to replace the u-joints every other year when we were racing. Depended on the angle of your set-up, it seems to me that you could run until you feel any vibration. I do not think there is any easy way to check the condition of the u-joints or the carrier bearing without full disassembly. If you have the engines out, I would definitely do a full inspection.

And keep them completly dry. Only failure I have heard of was at 130 Hrs. I believe.
