gimbal ring torque numbers
 

what is the proper torque for number 16 in the picture. i have a cut out in the top of my gimbal so i could change my upper swivel (#12). boat is now taking on water threw the upper swivel. woundering if re-torqueing will stop the water. also i have full hydro steering so my steering lever is of no use.

Did you replace the seal too?

You have to be sitting pretty low in the water to get a leak thru the swivel are you sure its not bellows

ya i only leaks when i have a couple peaple on the platform. been chasin water in the bilge all summer and finnaly found it yesterday.

So you never answered "Did you replace the seal"? You should have replaced the bearing and seal if you replaced the swivel pin.
There is no torque spec for nut #16. That nut adjust the up and down play in the gimble ring. With the bolt and nut #17&19 loose you tighten down the nut #16 until there is no up and down play in the gimble ring. Then with a mallet hit downward on the gimble ring. Then check clearence between the washer on top of the gimble ring and gimble housing. Should be .005-.007. Loosen or tighten nut to obtain proper clearence. Then tighten steering lever bolt and nut to 55-60 ft. lbs.

Also steering lever IS still in use holding up the gimble ring.

what seal? changed the swivel pin with the gimbal housing still on the boat, my mechanic cut a 3'' by 2'' access into the top of my gimbal housing so we would not have to remove the gimbal housing. i guess i should just take it back to him.

I think this is the part your looking for it rides where the pencil is pointing it is not shown on your diagram

when i changed mine pulled the swivel shaft seal did not come out with it, hopefully your mech. knows about it

That would be the upper swivel shaft seal. It is located in the gimbal housing between the gimbal ring and steering lever. Swivel shaft goes through it. There is also a bushing there. It is not in the diagram you have posted. Assuming it is a Bravo in this diagram seal is #5. #4 is the bushing which would be immediately below the steering lever in the gimbal housing. #6 would be the bushing above the steering lever in the gimbal housing which the extreme top end of the swivel shaft would ride in. All three of these should have been replaced for best results when replacing the swivel shaft.

These can be changed with the gimble housing on the boat.
He cut the hole to remove the steering lever.

Thanks for all the help, my receipt shows the seal and bushing.
It was real lose, i snugged it up. i didnt put to much torque on it though, as i dint have feeler gauges with me.
