Max safe rpm for bravo one?
I am finishing up a forged 489 stroked 454 in my single engine baja and wanted to see if i could safely rev it to 5800 without hurting my bravo 1??
|
I used to run mine at 6000 RPM till I changed to the current 28 pitch B1's

Figured it wasnt a problem, but a few local guys said id blow the drive.

Its only a matter of time.

It's not the rpm's that will kill it but the torque pu to it. Go easy on the hole shots and acceleration bursts and it could last for awhile. Start hammering it and it's a goner for sure.

More rpms= more heat= more chance of failures
I would say 6000rpms max with lube changes every 20 hrs |

I have one that I run at 5800 to 5900 rpm for short periods of time with a nitrous blast and it has been fine for years. I do have back up drives reading and waiting to go.

I used to run my 25' Checkmate to 6300 on a regular basis. But that was not a 5-10mile run. More for the river speed runs. Used to be the pinion gear would walk over the driven gear, but that was before people properly lashed the upper gear set. I used to build the B1 on the Caster's boat, National Champ, he would race it very hard.. see 7000rpm on the telltale.
You are better off running a higher rpm with less load and deal with the cooling than lug the motor down with a big prop and load the drive. just my .02. Dick |
5 blades will kill a Bravo in a hurry.

Your lake looks pretty flat...and as for your drive living, you know very well when and when not to apply the throttle.
Every 5 blade that got bolted up to a Bravo up here on Lake Michigan...RIP. |
5800 rpm,s30 and 31 P5x two years xz,s imco lowers 8000 lb boat mostly on lake Erie Just keep it in the water ,and I cruise above my peak tourque witch is 3300 rpms
