Salt damage on Sportmaster lower
Any ideas on removing salt damage. (Streaking, tiny pitting).
|
I used wet 800 grit sandpaper on my Imco lower. the tarnish came off very easily with a liberal application of water. The aluminum will clog up your sandpaper quickly if you try to do it dry. 800 grit wont get it shiny, more like the brushed aluminum/Satin look that they have from the factory.
I then put on a couple coats of wax just for good measure. |

An orbital sander with 60-80 grit paper will make a IMCO lower look just like new.

Chris Dont do that too often or you will be seeing gears before you know it.:lolhit: 800 grit took off aluminum damn fast, i would think 60 grit would eat the hell out of it. |

If you go over the lower very lightly with an orbital sander (60-80 grit)...It works great. I believe it is the same grit IMCO uses originally.
