Alpha dirty oil ???????

i took apart my alpha drive and it looks like it has carbon deposits in it on the housing. The gears are like a grayish marble, not shiny like a wear pattern. Any ideas wat it is . shoulnt it be clean and shiny gears.

Yes, but what caused you to take the drive apart?

It was only to change a water pump. So i started to check things out. It is like a grease on the inside of the case. It has never been opened before. I have built drives just looking to see what other s have found.

The gears should not be shiny. They should look similar to these http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o36486-en.html

Yes it all looks good inside. I was wondering if anyone has seen is like a grease on the wall of the housing. Maybe from from factory for lubrication during assembly. This is my dads 2005 trophy fishing boat. He bought it new so its been maintained. I was just curious.
