Speedmaster 3 and 3A difference

Hi There... Can anyone tell me if there is a visual difference between a Speedmaster 3 to a 3A...Also is there any internal differences....
Thank You
Jim

One of the easiest ways to tell the 2 apart is to check the size of the hole in the case that the rear trim cylinder pin goes through. A #3A uses a 1" pin and a #3 uses a 7/8" pin. Also a #3A has a 26 spline 1.75" dia. propshaft. Be careful, a 26 spline 1.75" dia. propshaft can be put into a #3.

Yes, internal parts are larger. 3 and 3A parts are not exchangeable. Allparts in 3A's are larger except the U-Joint assy. it's the same. 3A's have a left and right hand propshaft.

speedmaster 3

how good are speedmaster 3 drives? i got a right hand one , now can some one please tell me why people claim that a right hand one is better than a left hand one? i have this drive on a single engine boat and i think it should not make a diference if i use left or right, please correct me if i am wrong.
also can a speed master 3 handle 680 hp ?
please advise before i go and get my self in problems.
i just bought a velocity with this set up and i want to make sure is good.
any help will work.
thanks in advance.
Eddy.
