#6 oil pump question

Can someone explain how they work and how often they fail or should be replaced? I read where a guy had one go bad and it fried the drive. Thank you

They only fail if: low oil, water in oil, metal in oil (gear wear, bearing wear), if drive was rebuilt after gear failure and never replaced pump, lose pump cartrige bolts. There are 2 alumn. wear plates between pump, check for wear.

Thanks for the information. So you would not just randomly, let's say every 50 hours, need to change the pump, just if you rebuild?
