Top hinge pin
Has anyone ever done the replacement where they cut the front of the assembly instead of drilling the holes on the side? How's it look when all completed?

yes exactly like that..Im just not sure that it will look that good once completed..

I think it looks better than those goofy plastic plugs in the side. Heck, have the covers engraved with the boat name LOL
|
i was just thinking of putting a newer style "M" sticker over the plate..ok, I guess this is what im gunna do..ya the plugs do look like poop..I got a full asembly in the basment with the plugs..and doesnt look to goo..

I've got a transom assembly without the bellhousing or trim rams, the gimbal ring is intact and the section that bolts to the boat. It's in good shape, just a parts donor. I'd take $400 for it and I'm local. PM me address and I'll send pictures, if your interested.

Seems like the cover plate would be way more likely to leak, which that can't be good, vs the plastic plugs which should be leak proof.
Have seen someone replace the pin from working inside w/o removing the motor. Took a little time, but is doable. I would pull my motor before drilling holes or cutting the back out just to make it easier. But that's just me. :) |
well they say to use silcone to seal the hole..

Just rip the engine out, repair it the right way, and be done with it. If you find someone on here who has done it once you can honestly have the engine out and sitting on the ground in less time than you will spend with the die-grinder.
I had the same problem as you 2 years ago and just pulled the engines. It was my first time, but I KNOW it was easier in the long run, a great learning experience, and an opportunity to replace EVERYTHING while you are in there; Pin, bellows, bushings, etc.... |
