XR Hub Kit question
I have a new hub kit that I've had for several years and never used. I thought it fit an XR 1 1/4" shaft. I tried to put it on today and it doesn't fit. The part number on the box is 840389K06, but the part number on the hub is 840237-C. It won't fit on a 1 1/4"shaft. Does any one know what this fits.
Thanks, Steve |
Steve,
I just checked a new one in the box.. Same numbers that you see.. Should fit the 1.25" shaft. What tells you it doesnt fit?? And are you sure it is a 1.25" shaft your are going on to?? Is it not fitting in the prop or on the shaft? |
Fits in the prop fine, not on the shaft. I did not measure the shaft. It is an Imco lower, does that make a difference? The shaft is too big. Has a blue bearing carrier if that makes a difference.
|
Blue bearing carrier makes it a Merc bearing carrier and possibly Merc shaft. I have not mixed the two (Merc carrier with Imco shaft) so I cant say for certain about the shaft. But the hub should fit either way. How much difference does it look like? I mean does it slide on at all, then bind up. Or you cant even start it on the shaft??
I can take some measurements on a shaft for you for comparison, if you like. Dick |
I can't even start it on the shaft. The shaft is just a little to big. I will measure it today and let you know.
Thanks, Steve |
Ok the shaft measures 1.25 . The hub has a black plastic insert that faces the bearing carrier. That measures 1.24.
I tried to tap in on with a no mar hammer and it would only go on about a 1/4 inch and left spline grooves in the plastic. Are these supposed to fit this tight? If I got it on I don't think I would ever get it off without damaging something. What do you think? |
Dick,
Could you measure the inside of your XR hub and tell me what it measures. I think Mercury's quality control missed the plastic insert on this one. |
Sorry, I missed your post last night.. I ran out and checked a new one. ID is 1.245".. It slipped on fairly easy on an XR shaft. I forgot to measure the shaft.. and it is time to head to work.
It looks like there is a retainer ring holding that plastic in. Dick |
