gimble bearings
Hi as a matter of fact they are called gimble bearings, and they are no fun to change most likely torches will be involved, just a heads up.

Your Phucked...Steering shaft/swivel shaft. Mine suffers from the same fate. Its a PITA to fix... I most likly will go to hyd. steering once mine gets unmanageable.

If it's the latter, there are two needle bearings that support the gimbal ring. The lower is pressed into the ring, and the upper is pressed into the gimbal housing. One or both could be shot. On mine, the uppers were OK but the lowers had disintegrated. If it's the former, it's probably the upper pivot pin as others suggest. Expensive part to replace and lots of work to get to. Upgrading to hyd steering will band-aid that issue. |

What do you mean side to side? Like when you turn the wheel there is slop before the gimbal turns? Or like you can grab the gimbal ring from the outside and move it laterally.

if the boat is in the water and there is slight waves the drives will swing from side to side..
or when you are doing 45 to 50 mph and you are going perfectly straight then next thing you now it swerves to the right or to the left its dangerous that it needs replaced now |
You need this kit to upgrade to the newest style square cut upper swivel shaft, steering arm and gimble ring. 42385A7
