TRS Gimbal rebuild
Ok its time to get the old race boat ready for another year of battle in OPA. Last season we had a gimbal the was pretty loose on the top and bottom pins. My question is how do we repair? What s the easiest way on the boat or remove gimbals from transom? Its been about 10 years since they were off and I am kinda afraid of what we may find. ANy help would be great and yes I know TRS is old stuff and I KNOW we should just put bravo's on it or a set of Konrads but $$$$$ dont grow on trees in this part of Jersey and were just out to have fun.
Thanks Mike O 531 WHOZ YOUR DADDY P.S May have open spot for some races this year for Nav or maybe driver if interested PM me please. |
I would just leave it on the boat. It would be a good holding fixture while your beating on it. You will need an acess kit to remove the steering arm easier though it can be done with out it. Really should have a manual if your going to attempt this. Mercruiser TR/TRS service manual #5.

well measured the up and down play according to the merc book. They say it should be between .010 and .020 and mine is .020 - .021 so we gonna let it ride. They are no looser then the spare ones we have now.

Quick question and not to thread jack; how many hours "under normal operating conditions" should the gimbal assembly be good for before tear down and rebuild? Happy Memorial Day!
