Are trim senders necessary?

I have a mercruiser 228, both senders are busted. Order new ones? Or can I run without them?

My dad said they only last a few years anyway, so to just run without them. Going t try it. Why not.

May have to watch that you don't over trim if the limit sender is eliminated. Also if you have a swim platform that may require the drive to clear.
