TRS prop shaft seal replacement

I hope I didn't FUBAR this.

Prop shaft was leaking, pretty obvious based on water in the oil, and oil dripping out of propeller. Upon disassembly, I found a mess of fishing line that I think cut up the seal. I tried to pry the seal out but wound up driving it back into the bearing carrier. There are supposed to be two seals, but I am sure there is only one in there based on how far back the seal went before stopping.

So the question: Can I remove just the retaining nut and the carrier to swap out the seal and reassemble? I figured I could mark the retaining nut and housing where it was tightened to and just reassemble identically, without touching the bearings (assuming they look to be in good shaft). Thoughts?

Many thanks, Randy

Ya you can do that. Just be sure to mark it like you said so you can return it to the original bearing preload.

Thanks Jim!! That was what I wanted to hear from the guy I wanted to hear it from :-)

You know those 2 seals go in opposite of each other. The inner seal has the side with the spring showing facing in. The outter seal has the side with the spring showing facing out. Before slipping the carrier on over the prop shaft pack some grease in the area between the 2 seals.

Yep, will do. Thank you, Randy
