Prop Shaft Bravo One X ?

Im looking for a prop shaft for a 2006 bravo one x drive? I twisted mine off this weekend! Is this something I can do myself or does it need speical tools?

I bet you would need special tools

Mr Gadgets 05-30-2011 10:14 PM

It can be done, special tool would be used to remove the retainer nut. But others have removed them without it. Reassembly requires the preload to be set on the bearings, reseal of the bearing carrier and the lock tab might need to be replaced depending on how many times it has been used. Where are you located?? I could explain it better on a phone call, then you could decide if you can handle it..
If you want, pm me..

It should not be more than couple hours of labor plus the seals.

Dending on what the bearngs look like, if the races are dented, they should be replaced and a whole setup done on the lower. If they are good and seals are good (sharp edges on the seals) then you could remove and replace. Set the retainer ring back to where it was or add a bit of preload (drag) while turning the propshaft. That is the down and dirty way of doing it. If the new propshaft has a good bearing and you use it, then the preload may be off and you might need a new crush sleeve and set the preload with it. If you reuse the same bearing from the old shaft, you could possibly take it back to where it was and be good.
That is the down and dirty way of doing it. If the seals are worn at all, or the bearing races are dented at all. Then it should be gone through, completely..
Hope that helps.

Dick,
would it be easier to just swap out the whole lower? instead of the prop shafts? and is that something that i could do? also the lower i have is off a 99 model bravo one. its my understanding that the only difference between it and my 06 x is the low water pick up?
