how long do they last?
I have a 1992 Bravo 1 on a 23 foot Checkmate. Originally powered with a 330HP 454 I've had a 496 Mag HO for the last 4 years. At almost 20 years old I'm wondering if I should have the drive rebuilt before something goes south or wait it out. The boat only weighs 3300 lbs so that's a plus but I do get a lot of air. The fluid has always been changed yearly with the merc HP stuff and I'm having no problems yet. Any opinions or experience would be appreciated?

How many hours? If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Your. Older gears were forged much better then he newer junk. Its not overpowered so leave it and you will be fine.

They work until they break. Cost to rebuild will be the same, so why rush it?

Hmm, not the answer I expected but good points. I'm all about leaving it alone. Not sure aout the hours. I can scan the 496 but there's no meter left from the 454 days. Best guess is 700 or so.

I know my old Outlaw has over 900 hours on B1s 454 385 mags. STILL no metal on magnets when he changes oil.
OK maybe I had to regair the Skag a time or 3 but Hey! |
U dont have that much weight and not that much power going to it, leave it alone. Boat like that could go 1500 hours plus or forever depending on maint, how you drive it or if you ever hit anything

Ride on!
